Start with the messy spreadsheet.

Our first prototype helps turn embedded product images into named files. More tools may follow as real needs are validated.

SKU Image Exporter

Export supported embedded spreadsheet images and name them using a SKU column you choose. Review image mappings and exceptions before using the results.

01Choose your identifier columnText SKUs retain leading zeros. Repeated filenames get suffixes rather than being overwritten.
02Keep original image bytesNo recompression. Cropped or rotated worksheet appearance is not reproduced.
03Inspect the audit trailJSON, CSV, HTML and text reports document recognized images, mappings and skipped items.
02 / The workflow

Prepare. Export. Review.

This is a local Python tool, not a website upload service. Familiarity with running terminal commands is required.

1

Prepare a small sample

Use a workbook you have permission to process. Identify the worksheet and SKU column. Start with a de-identified copy.

2

Run on your computer

The script reads supported embedded images and writes to a new output directory. It does not modify the source workbook or execute macros.

3

Check every mapping

Floating images are matched by row position, not visual recognition. Compare each result with the source and inspect skipped items.

03 / Before you use it

Clear limits. No guesswork.

What the prototype covers

  • Supported floating-image structures in Transitional OOXML .xlsx and .xlsm files
  • Images matched using the top-left anchor row and a specified SKU column
  • Original raster-image extraction with deterministic duplicate naming
  • Local WPS DISPIMG parsing as an experimental feature only

What it does not promise

  • No universal Excel or WPS compatibility; no native-app or customer workflow validation yet
  • No .xls, encrypted files, modern Excel richData images, remote IMAGE() retrieval or OCR
  • No recovery of precision or leading zeros already lost in numeric SKUs
  • No preservation of worksheet cropping, rotation or layout
Validation status: Synthetic testing has been completed, including independently generated workbooks and LibreOffice-saved copies. Real-world customer validation remains pending. Incorrect, ambiguous or unsupported cases must be reviewed; testing is not a guarantee of complete image detection.
04 / Common questions

A few things worth knowing.

Can I buy or download the tool here?

Not yet. This page introduces the prototype. Paid checkout, public downloads and support are not open. There is no subscription, purchase form or payment collection on this page.

Do my workbooks leave my computer?

The current exporter runs locally and does not upload workbooks or fetch remote images. This website has no workbook upload form. Website hosting may process ordinary technical request data; offline processing is not a claim that web hosting collects no data.

Is this a point-and-click app?

No. The current prototype is a Python command-line tool requiring Python 3.10 or later. It is intended for people comfortable running scripts and reviewing the output.

Will Taskfoundry offer other tools?

Taskfoundry is intended as a home for practical software and workflow utilities. SKU Image Exporter is the only current prototype presented here. Other products have not been launched or promised.

Why can an exported picture look different?

The exporter saves the original embedded image. Content hidden by a crop in the worksheet can reappear, so check the whole image before sharing it.

Built around work that needs doing.
